Can someone please recommend a good laptop and good laptop apps for coding?

It's less demanding than gaming laptop but can't help you any more. This Lenovo ThinkPad, after getting slight upgrade of 4 GB extra RAM and second harddrive for unholy SSD+HDD combo, it has been serving me for half a decade.
Also, just get one or two IDEs for language of your choice and you will be fine.

You should use Microsoft Visual Studio for your laptop. It has language support for a lot of popular languages. If you are using java you should use Intellij idea.
