I used Netbeans when I was learning Java in the University (mainly Swing and some connections with SQL Server) and I found it very easy to use. Normally I did not like much its interface and the lack of color schemes, but Solarized was fine in full screen mode

You should try it and make an opinion for yourself, each developer has different impressions. My advice is to do it and take some time to learn the keyboard shortcuts and how to customize it

I use Eclipse for Java. I think Netbeans is good too though.
