User input limit

Question

Can you limit user input. so when the user enter characters more than the limit the program stop accepting input

ex:
limit = 5
user input = input_text
after user enter first five letters the entry box stop accepting input
and text is = input

It depends on the yser interface and language you use. In a console app you need read the whole answer, valudate it and requestion if needed. In a application with a UI is it much easier.
