How to license and copyright your work?

How can I copyright and license my software, scripts, and images? I don't want to pay anyone.

No, because copyright is all about who lawfully owns something, you'd have to go through the U.S. Copyright Office if it's that big of a deal.

How does that not break the purpose? I don't want anyone to use my work unless I authorize, including any government. Also I posted a reply earlier that somehow has been removed.
