Are bootcamps effective for newbie coders?
If you’ve been to a bootcamp for web developers do you feel one should have at least some hands on experience and basic fundamentals on html css JavaScript otherwise you’ll be lost? I’m doing SoloLearn & FreeCodeCamp and there is a lot to learn no doubt but I can imagine a 3-6 month bootcamp like Lamba school, Dev Mountain and the like cram a lot in short time. Those schools are not cheap and may end up discouraging rather than encouraging if you’re not ready. Your thoughts.

In my opinion, you definitely don't want to rush into any kind of bootcamp completely ignorant of the topic.
You are correct in that they cram a lot of material in a short time frame and because of this, it's more helpful to have a basic foundation and some experience with it. That way, you'll be able to keep up with the course since you will have a clear understanding of the fundamentals.
