Need help with php+sql

Question

Anybody knows any documents or tutorials to learn all codes of connecting php to mysql and its errors and syntaxs? I checked php.net but its so confusing I am new to mysql_connect() and all of that stuff.
please point to detailed tutorial or documentation.

I'd recommend using mysqli_connect and mysqli in general as it's improved. The older methods are more prone to attack by malicious users.
