Honestly, I don't even understand the debate between client-side and server-side. As a web developer, I recommend that you learn both sides so that you're a complete developer and able to accomplish all tasks set before you instead of just some.

With that being said, I'd recommend that you learn Javascript first, and then learn PHP afterwards. You can learn both in a relatively short amount of time, and they both compliment each other on tasks. When you go to learn PHP, I recommend picking up SQL as well so that you can interactive with databases as needed.

If you want client-side js, if you want server-side php. Or all with js.
