What do you think of the browser Brave? It was developed by Brendan Eich (creator of JavaScript).

I think it makes sense for JavaScript coders to use a browser made by the guy who created JavaScript. Not just that: it is super fast and a great ad-blocker. I can watch Youtube with not a single ad. [Disclaimer: This is not an ad or promotional post. I am just sharing a useful tool for fellow JavaScripters].

I met the browser recently thanks to the Facebook page of DuckDuckGo, which shared an article on browser integration with TOR to improve privacy.

Personally I have not tried it, but I do not think I leave my browser by default. The problem is that many extensions are not available and for me they are fundamental in my day to day life.

Hi Ryan Els,

While this isn't strictly a programming related question (i.e. should go in personal feed), I think Brave is a pretty cool concept. If DuckDuckGo were to work as well as Google did 6 months ago, I wouldn't really feel the need to keep Chrome on reserve for Google searches. :P Would obviously still keep Chrome around for dev work though, so can't hide from the creepy camera lens logo as much as I'd prefer to.

Morpheus 👍😁Thanks for the like. I just earned the good question badge. I have been happy with Brave. It works well. I got Chrome on my tab as well but I seldom use it. Far too many pop-ups and and ads that I have no control over.

I looked into brave and it promises 3 things

1. you save data and battery life (processing) by getting rid of ADs and AD trackers.

2. An improved quality based advertisement platform where we use this BAT( basic attention token) to reward good content, its a blockchain based technology.

3. Better private browsing, like TORs private tab feature.

I am gonna give it a try, coz it looks to me like a balance between 2 extremes

chrome - practical but compromises privacy.

TOR - not much practical in real working life but uncompromised privacy.

Brave incorporates stuffs both from Chromium and TOR , so its an attempt to find the sweet spot as well as save us from the clickbait madness .

if many people start using it then eventually its ecosytem will improve and we will get all those popular browser extensions.

most importantly its claims of 3 times faster loading time and cutting costs in mobile data is worth checking it out.

Ryan Els i use AD block on chrome so I dont have any complains with ads, but in brave s website it showed that AD blocker is not much help in cutting data related to unwanted AD contents which I didnt knew about.

i dont think I can migrate from chrome to brave in pc right now but i ll test it thoroughly in my phone.

and every now and then on pc if it does well on phone.

Nope. The web browser is based on Chrome. This browser is now automatically disqualified. I often get browser recommendations like this from some script kiddies who shill this browser. They don't even know how a browser works in the background. Using this browser is for me privacy and data protection suicide.
