Why is the origin located at the top-left corner rather than the bottom-left corner of the screen?

As a mathematician, I don't like this. The y-axis should increment upwards. I have no idea why the origin is at the top-left corner and why the y-axis increments downwards. Is there anyone out there who knows why this is so? Thanks!

Erik Johanson The top-left part of your screen is usually the starting point of the screen, that's why it's called the origin

This is due to the history of computer graphics. This thread explains it well. https://gamedev.stackexchange.com/questions/83570/why-is-the-origin-in-computer-graphics-coordinates-at-the-top-left
