How to make JS text bold?

so im going to polish a text game i wrote, but i want to switch over to JS for more style in text animations, however i cant figure out how to format words in bold or italic even when i'm using the correct code and browser, help please!

had to follow a couple links and read some things. Im not to understanding of JS but I decided Id try and have a look at it. Its probably not the cleanest work but I dont use JS.
