What is a Grey Hat Hacker? I know Black and White Hat Hackers but what does grey do?

Greys are not 50/50. Normally, they are completely legal. However, there are some times that they believe breaking the law is worth the risk to achive a goal. For example, a company is doing something illegal, but there isn't any proof. They might illegally hack into the companies server to get the proof looking for stuff that provides a legal means of taking them down. Or, they got screwed by some company so they hack the records to fix the issue. Avoiding crossing the legal line is the hardest part of staying white. There are plenty of reasons to push the legal line, when you can hack anyone.

If a gray-hat hacker discovers a security flaw in a piece of software or on a website, they may disclose the flaw publically instead of privately disclosing the flaw to the company and giving them time to fix. They wouldn’t take advantage of the flaw for their own personal use
