Media queries

So I’m working in WordPress, and I made the mistake of coding desktop first. I am a beginner coder and of course I am still learning. However, I do believe I have some what of a good understanding of media queries. So In WordPress my media queries aren’t working and keep getting overrun by the built in media queries for the theme I’m using. Any suggestions on the proper way to make my breakpoints. I have knowledge in css, html, and JavaScript and just learned React but not fully fluent. Please help😭

This probably comes way later than would have been helpful to you, but usually I just reach out to the template developer and ask them how to override their broken stuff. Each WordPress template should have contact info for support.
