How do I choose the right career path?

Hello guys, so am new here and there's a whole lot of things to learn, but what advice do you have for beginners in choosing a career path and what resources to learn in order to follow that path?

Answer yourself what excites you the most - applications, games, scripting, networking, data wrangling, scientific computing, etc.
Then focus on a language predominantly used in your field of choice.
