Anyone know anything about creating game engines?

I have been learning c++ for a while now, because I wanted to start learning game development in unreal engine.
I recently decided that that would be to expensive for me so I started looking in to creating my own game engine.
I’ve decided that’s what I want to d!
So I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this already or knows any free resources?
