To resolve a merge conflict is easy, but to resolve it in the most optimal way, beneficial to the entire project, is often subjective in nature, and requires expert knowledge on the project itself, on how very specific changes affect parts of that specific project, not only in terms of functionality, but also quality. These metrics which cannot be expressed in discreet numbers, will require evaluation carried out by human intelligence.
