I think it is a lie.... CAKE IS A LIE! (sry) Everyone can program, but i think it is because of psychology. The same as case with scientists... British scientists (sry again). In my opinion it is just society that doesn't like antipatterns :~) P.S Cake is ALIVE!

This is a rather complicated question that brings in social issues. For instance, in the western world - science ended up being an ol' boys club because of an array of issues - such as social demand on women to become mothers. Motherhood hasn't always been okay with a career. In fact, most women tend to decide one over the other. Biologically, the female brain is more geared for engaging the prefrontal cortex (NIH) than the male brain. This means, if a female applies herself to a science she is by default and considering little other factors going to pass up her male counterparts. Male brains are wired to favor manual tasks. Whether the following is biological or societal I am not sure: In the western world, a belief exists that asserts that males depend on classical logic to connect ideas whereas females depend on emotions to drive forming ideas. I'm inclined to believe that this is society and has no scientific premise aside from measured occurrence. The WHO, CDC, NIH, and American Psychological Association have plenty of free papers on this issue and should be reviewed if forming an informed opinion.
