Are Progressive Web Apps on the path to have full access to the device hardware? Or will it have limitations eventually?

It is known that Progressive web apps cannot access the device hardware in entirety. But, are we (in development) moving closer and closer to being able to access full hardware capabilities?

I think we're moving in the opposite direct due to the fact if they would be able to access the hardware directly it would be easy to injekt a virus in the ram(see the windows defender javascript skandal)

But I guess only Futur will tell
