Because in America we spell it color. Also we spell flavour as flavor and favourite as favorite, humour as humor, etc. Also beware that in words like ‘anaemia’ or ‘polycythaemia’, we Americans leave out the ‘a’, and spell it ‘anemia’ or ‘polycythemia’, respectively, and words like ‘oesophageal’, we spell without the ‘o’ before the ‘e’. Another weird difference is that in most of Europe, what we call epinephrine in America is called adrenaline. And the whole paracetamol/acetominophen thing. (Personally, I think the American spelling system is easier, because words are generally shorter, but feel free to disagree). (Sorry for the medicalese examples. Those are the ones I could think of off the top of my head.)

Because the programming language was not designed by the British. :)

Rora Wait, so you're saying that instead of 'adrenaline' you say 'epinephrine'? I've never heard that before. * *I'm British, so that probably explains it.

Only in a medical context. Adrenaline rush is still adrenaline rush
