Well Ada Lovelace was "technically" the first programmer, devising numerous computational tables for Charles Babbage's analytical and (I think) difference engines.

Another guy (cant remember his name) thought up a new way of computing (and coding) using a binary system (that already existed at the time for hundreds of years but rarely used), inspired by memory tape
