I think an important parameters is the quality of the interpreter implementation/platform ^^
My few use of Ruby on Linux do me feel it very slower than Python... but I'm sure in other context the difference shouldn't always be as much great, even as in favor of wich :P

I may think ruby cause most of all complex programs are written in ruby
