JS in OS development

Question

How JavaScript is used in Operating System?
I used think, JS is only for web development and desktop and Android app development and sometimes as an alternative to batch programming.

But Some confusing stuffs got logged while installing Ubuntu. This error didn't effect the installation but I don't know, What is JavaScript doing here.

Can JavaScript do anything?
