I'm having problems with just understanding the terminology and definitions

I'm reading and seeing what they are and what they are doing but I just can't seem to understand them. I know I'm new to programing bit if the basics are this hard I can't imagine when I get into more aspects of it. Any suggestions on how to understand it better?
