The app may load slower because things has to be redownloaded from the server again. But your learning progress is not lost. Avatars in particular will be downloaded again, you don't see a person's avatar after clearing app cache, it shows up again after the avatars are downloaded and cached. I'm not sure whether app settings are altered by clearing the cache, but maybe not.
