Not easy to answer ;)

On the one hand you will see a lot of stuff which you only need for GUI. Even if you are familiar with the java basics you have to learn a lot of new things.

On the other hand I think it is better to be familiar with the basics so that you understand what you are doing.

You should be also familiar with your IDE and you should know how to work with the java documentation. Researching skills are also very helpful.

I suggest you to start with JavaFX.

There are also many videos on youtube.

Maybe it is helpful just to jump into a tutorial and to see if you can deal with gui or if you want to learn more about java before you start.
