Can I lose the xps by picking up the opponent by mistake and not initiating the game

No,you cannot lose xps.In sololearn, you have two options either you choose your opponent or you will get a random opponent and if you lose with lower level opponent then you will loose more xps.If you win against any opponent you obviously gain xps

If you start a challenge, you have to play it or you lose.

If someone challenges you and you don't react, nothing happens, it will be deleted.
