Img tag is necessary to have "/" at end ?

I don't get it. It is necessary or not / at the end of img tag? I attached a post for reference. Explain in details. Thanks in advance.

No it's not necessary but when we use XML svg tags like image, line , polyline they are also non closing tags but there it is mandatory to use / at the end .
