Is this a type of encryption? I want to create my own encryption key so it can't be searched for or found publicly.

Zen Python is more or less a joke.
Your own encryption;
An easy way would be to work with a password protected file that contains encryption key,
A professional encryption - you can study that a whole semester.
Encryptions like shown in Zen Python are not very good.
You can decrypt easily with statistical methods based on probabiliy distribution of characters, which are specific for each language.
