If you have used codeignitor you may conclude that mainly that architecture supports mvc and also it is object oriented and event driven functional while laravel is more focus on components like in angular. In today's context developers more prefer to use laravel because of components plays a major role in implemention. On the other hand codeignitor is mostly for beginners while laravel supports more additional features like blade templating which is hard for beginners. If you willing to learn php as your prefered languages go with following order CorePHP Codeignitor Laravel or symfony Hope you clarify your question about the framework. Another request: dont limit your knowledge for a single framework which is not a practise. Learn the core and move for the frameworks Cheers....

CodeIgniter is simple but if you don't organize code well you may end up with bloated codebase. It is great for simple apps and prototyping. Laravel is also similar to CodeIgniter. However, Laravel has great conventions to organize your code. This helps you to become a better developer too. Additionally, Laravel is the most popular PHP framework because of its mature ecosystem.
