If you have used codeignitor you may conclude that mainly that architecture supports mvc and also it is object oriented and event driven functional while laravel is more focus on components like in angular. In today's context developers more prefer to use laravel because of components plays a major role in implemention. On the other hand codeignitor is mostly for beginners while laravel supports more additional features like blade templating which is hard for beginners.

If you willing to learn php as your prefered languages go with following order

CorePHP
Codeignitor
Laravel or symfony
