What's Ethical Hacking/Cyber Security like?

I've always been wanting to do a career in cyber security, particularily ethical hacking but I'm wanting to know from people who work or have worked in the cyber security industry what it's like? Do you have to make your own programs? What's an average day like etc. etc.
