there are many books to learn but if you are just starting then "Beginning programming with java for dummies" is best and fun way of learning however "Java ,the complete refrence by herbert schildt" is like bible of java

what could be simpler than this app? complete the modules to familiarise yourself with the language and then you reuse the lessons as reference while you practice writing code for a program...
