Jaeger, would you suggest using Github in the early days of learning to show history or would you suggest waiting for when the code is a little more mature to publish? Asking for a friend ;)

Coding bootcamps, college degree in computer science and some experience. Experience is very important. Start building code using version control like github and building your portfolio to share with future hiring managers. Think of it like a living resume.

The only way to start is to do it. You start doing projects you want to make or just to challenge yourself. Explore programming languages and libraries that are popular. Once you're comfortable making something and understand the standards put forth by smart people, you can publish these projects on GitHub. Make sure to document your code and include build instructions when required. Then just sending out resumes with your GitHub included might get you some interviews or feedback. Both are important. Best of luck to you! edit: don't be afraid to send your resume to companies, even when the job is way out of your league. I got my job applying for a senior software engineer position, knowing I'm not qualified. they often have different positions open you might not have heard of or will have positions in the future and they'll already have heard of you.

I would recommend taking a look at job offers and take notes about which programming languages are the most wanted. After that, take a look into which fields these languages are used for (you can see this in the job descriptions) and if you could see yourself working on those fields and like that programming language, then go for it. Please do not learn a multitude of programming languages at once, rather get the basics straight of a certain language. Other than that I find Simon Janssens answer very useful and something you should do for sure
