Is the best programe the least lines of codes?!

well, I thought that more lines , the programme will be better but today our teacher said that the real programmer who counts the letters in his/her code!

The best code is the one that fullfills the given task with the lowest amount of ressources while staying readable.
Bonus points for writing modular code.

But no, low character count alone doesn't make a good program.
On the other hand unnecessary code doesn't either.
