What is the benefit of using Jquery above JavaScript ?

Main benefit of JQuery is helping to support more widely browsers ecosystem, without having to write specific codes for support each browsers differences of implementation...
Second benefit is to provide simpler ways to do some complex task with built-in functions, and useful utilities function not provided by Html built-in APIs ( JQuery is a framework ).
Third benefit is relative ( some users, as me, don't think so ;P ) and concern the abilities to write shortened and/or more readable code...

You usually want to use JQuery with JavaScript, as it is a JS library. But JQ is worth to learn, as it will make working with the DOM very easy.
