Do you find it difficult to get usable feedback from the people in your every day life?

Sometimes when I'm excited about a new concept I've learned or a project I'm working on, I like to share my progress with friends and family. Pretty standard thing, right? More often than not, however, the people I share with don't really understand what it is I'm showing them or talking about.

Seems to be difficult sometimes for me to get feedback that I can actually use. Is this a common thing?

I'm really beginning to appreciate communities like this, especially as a new programmer.

as an IT, explaining IT things to normal people just gives me weird looks... same concept with programming.
