What do "cin" used for please tell me. I had a doubt on this

i need to go further and i checked everywhere in the c++ guide but the clear definition for the comand 'cin'

thanks james but what kind of input it gives for example if i use cin in iostream and also cou it with "please enter a number " then the out put needs a inpit what kind of inputi should give in that case
