um, can I eventually build my own app with this?

Java Swift and c# and maybe JavaScript is for building phone apps. But python will teach you programming.

you can, but for apps you are better off with other languages. I am a huge fan of Python, and if it's your first languages I recommend it highly.

Python - first language

2nd language more specific
Java - Software / Apps
C# - Hobby Game Dev / Mobile Games
C++ - Career game dev
