Depends what you're trying to hack. You need to be good at finding loophole and workarounds. finding weak points in security systems and have excellent problem puzzle solving skills. Some networking will work as well. if your understand basic syntax of code no matter what language you can more less point which is what and what for.

you need skill. you dont need to be a expert in any language but you should know about security system of the thing you want to hack. Also a good knowledge of pentesting and different os is required. Kali linux can be good.
