not exactly @robyn. It's computing square root here, which means the number is broken down into smaller factors, and then grouped into a pair of two and then multiplied.
Ex. 4^1/2 => 4 = 2×2 so grouping these factors into pair of two gives the answer as 2.
similarly, 9^1/2 = 3×3 grouping again gives answer as 3 .
similarly 16^1/2 = 2*2*2*2 grouping in pair of two and then multiplying them (2*2) gives answer as 4 and so on.

it's like 9^(1/2)=√9=3

I'm not understanding how it's a whole number 9 but then becomes smaller into 3? is it being divided somehow by the 1/2?
