Would the learning of c++ ease my transition to arduino programming .

C for arduino is not so hard, I think if you pass c here you may make in arduiono all what you want, but you must see some arduino examples

Instead of Arduino you could also use the Raspberry pi, that works with Python.

Learning C is always a good choice, but not exactly easy. If you want something easy try Python. It's like C without the hard part.
