Importance of C++ when comparing with Java?

I have learnt Java and recently I started to learn c++. Don't ask why! 😋. It seems that syntax of both of the languages are much similar. I can't understand why there are such pair of much similar languages. Why it that? What are the pros and cons of c++ when comparing with Java?

Java was derived from the C language, that's why a lot of syntax has a familiarity to it.
