how can swift help with programming?

i asked a similar question about jquery, but i was wondering if swift is mandatory to learn to work with linux. i would like to know a simple purpose of swift by anyone who has delved into swift well enough, but someone who has completed swift fundamentals with any clue is greatly appreciated too. thank you from a beginner :)

Swift is used for IOS programming. Not needed for Linux.
