C++ used to be the goto language for game design, now it is used less and less for the actual game design in favour of slightly higher level languages like c#, java and other languages alongside scripting languages like Js. Most game engines are programmed in C++ though. There's an app and game creation software (more of an SDK but you don't need to worry about that) called Marmalade and all the programming in that is done in C++.
