coding and math are almost the same. U need to be good at math to code well. It's not just able to write the syntax correctly, it is devising an algorithm to a problem which definitely requires lot of math.

If I refer to my personal experience, I would say yes. I know people who have done their thesis on both mathematics and informatic.
Is this harder? It will depends on how easily you can switch between maths and informatic.
