How should we think of down votes
If up votes are a kind of 'like', an approval, an encouragement then I am assuming a down vote is the opposite, a 'dislike', disapproval or discouragement. I am still relatively new to Solo earn and recently got several down votes. I felt a little disappointed, a little discouraged but there were no comments to help me understand if I had offended an individual or if my actions were something discouraged by the community as a whole. Are there some guiding principles to follow?

Sometimes users want their answers to be the first on the list, like in challenge posts or something. So, they like their own answer and dislike others to get to the top.
And people also may dislike your posts to show that they are not agree with you.

Now I see you got a post without a question, just a link to your code. People here don't like it because posts like yours are useless.

Downvotes should be treated (looked at) as correct/incorrect in my opinion.
Sometimes if there is a correct answer already provided there is no need for an explanation for the downvote.
If it is a question that was downvoted there could a couple of reasons: off-topic, already asked (alot)
But as others have mentioned it could just be a case of misuse.
Do not be discouraged. Downvotes do not affect your xp or anything
Perhaps you could post the questions/answers that have been downvoted here for us to look at

Dear Richard,
In fact, you can't figure out how people react to your even very normal and neutral words here. So that's just a personal bias in 50% of cases let's say. Unless you solve a problem or guide someone personally, then it will be more obvious why you get like.

I think in this case they saw it as advertising your code, disguised as a question. Some people don't like that.

My thanks for all your responses. Igor, Jay and Paul have confirmed my own theory in this case. Being relatively new to Solo earn I am experimenting but will now avoid repeating this particular experiment. My thanks to you all.
