Can someone give me a quick explanation of the difference between head and the h1-6 tags?

Head and h1-6 tags are completely different.
Head is where you put stuff that you wont see directly on your page like linking Javascript. H1-6 are like banners on your page h1 is biggest and h6 is smallest

<h1> heading for your page
<h2> headings between paragraphs, maybe for chapters in your text
<h3> defining even smaller subchapters underneath a <h2>

H1 is mostly alone on a page. There should be at least 2-3 h2 tags on a page (or none) and at least 2-3 h3 in a chapter defined by h2.... Confused? Look in the html code of wikipedia!
