<hr> or <hr/>?

what are the.difference between them?

Depends on which version of HTML you are about to use : HTML4.0: <hr> XHTML1.0: <hr/> HTML5: both And there is no more difference than that

For HTML5, you can use either one of them. For React.js, all tags must have closing, you need to use <hr />.

actually you can use both in HTML5 but in older versions you've to use <hr/>

I use <hr /> just to keep the habit for universal comparability.
