C++ is one of the most low level languages, meaning less translation to machine language and thus more optimized. It's the first language I learned and still my favorite. Know C++ and all else will be cake walk ;)

Start with C then move to C++... they are both similar but C is more basic for new programmers that wants to learn C++. Learning and mastering C will boost your confidence when you start learning other languages like PHP, Javscript, Java, Python, C# and the almighty C++.
