Can anyone tell how do i link the login page to database.

You could work with any server side scripting language. PHP has a smooth learning curve though!
However, if you are already proficient in any particular lang like python/Django, JavaScript, asp.net, Java etc, you could just add support for these languages to your webserver and start coming out of the box with your existent knowledge in your fav language.
