Does anyone know anything about .lua

Question

I’m working on individual project working on an old MMO private sever to learn coding or help me learn it. It uses c++ but nothing follows the rules but they’re all .lua files. Does that mean anything??

I'm in python and all my files are titled .py I think its just a file extension.
You may have to download something to open the file depending on what kind of computer you are doing them in.
I have a school Chromebook and had to download an app to open my files on. I think it just depends on your computer

So it doesn’t follow c++ coding but I can edit in a c++ editors
