both doing the same, which is storing your data , there are differents on the way they do it.
some apps designed better to work with sql and some with no sql

NoSQL sometimes called "Not-only SQL" that it use documents to stored the data. The idea behind this is that we can write any large scale data (unstructured and unpredictable) so fast and efficient. Any terabits data can perform fast with NoSQL, but it is terrific to select and using join operations.
Yet in the SQL, the data and it's relationships are stored in separate tables, not file based
